Public Call To Action By Electronic Cigarette Company Concerning FDA Policy On Tobacco
E Cigarettes National is issuing a call to all electronic cigarette users to take action this week due to the FDA ceasing to take public comments on tobacco regulations.
GAINESVILLE, FL, December 22, 2009 /Consumer Electronics PR News/ -- In the public comments left for the FDA by Smokefree Pennsylvania in September, the FDA was urged to do a number of things to help assist smokers move away from smoking tobacco and toward reduced harm products, including the electronic cigarette, and toward quitting entirely.
Classifying electronic cigarette products as a new category of tobacco products and creating reasonable regulations for them would be the most responsible thing for the FDA to do concerning, according to Smokefree Pennsylvania. Their comments also called on the FDA to reverse their earlier statements about e-cigarettes, including the accusation that electronic cigarette companies are targeting their products toward youth and that the products are not safer than tobacco cigarettes.
"The FDA has an ethical duty to correct and clarify the misinformation and scare mongering it presented about electronic cigarettes to the news media, and the agency should redefine and reasonably regulate electronic cigarettes as tobacco products," stated the organization.
"Smokefree Pennsylvania has set an example for everyone here," says Ellis. "By staying quiet about our right as consenting adults to choose an alternative way to smoke, we're giving up that right. Call your congressmen, call your senators, contact the FDA online and submit your comments on policy... if we expect the FDA to be reasonable and responsible, we have to show ourselves responsible by making our voices heard, and following the example of a 25 year veteran in the anti-smoking movement is just a wise decision."
