GeoReader, LLC Commences Development of iPhone App for GeoReader
GeoReader LLC commences development of its award-winning app, GeoReader, for iPhone use.
SYRACUSE, NY, October 29, 2011 /Consumer Electronics PR News/ -- GeoReader LLC has begun efforts to develop an iPhone version of its award-winning app, GeoReader . The app recently won "People's Choice Award" at the ION GNSS conference in Portland, OR. The founder of GeoReader LLC, Dave Moreau, states, "We have experienced success with our Android version of GeoReader, and we excited to be able to begin efforts to make the app available for iPhone users. Our plans are to continue to offer the app for free on both Android and iPhone platforms, and encourage users to add information to the app to share with other users."
GeoReader is an app that allows smartphones to read out loud site specific information as a user approaches a GPS location. Originally designed to add interest and provide relevant information to travelers, GeoReader provides the user the ability to listen to community generated information about broad subjects such as historical landmarks, local tourist attractions, or other location linked information, all hands-free, through their smartphone.
GeoReader is the first smartphone application of its kind that combines GPS technology with location mapping and voice enabled software. A website, www.mygeoreader.com, invites users to add "talking points " to a GPS location. Talking points can also be made with the smartphone directly at the location of interest. When a user takes a trip and comes into the range of a talking point , either in a vehicle or on foot, GeoReader will enable the smartphone to read the text of the talking point out loud, much the way the current GPS units will give the user directions to "turn left ahead". As the database of talking points grows through community submissions, new and different information will become available to users even when traveling along routine routes.
At its launch, GeoReader contained over 110,000 points of interest, covering roadside markers, historical bridges and locations on the national registry of historic places. The app contains nearly all of the historical landmarks for Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Oregon and Michigan. It includes Pennsylvania's entire historical roadside marker collection and many other points of interest in the rest of the USA , Canada and the UK.
GeoReader is currently available on smartphones using Android-based operating systems. It is a free application and can be downloaded from the website www.mygeoreader.com, or directly from the Android market (search GeoReader).
Applications for GeoReader are limitless, and can be utilized to promote local tourism, for educational purposes, to assist the visually impaired, or even as a personal tour guide in a new area. Users now have a way to provide broad site specific information and have it read out loud, anytime, anywhere through GPS , smartphones and GeoReader .
